The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC), associated with the Pierides Foundation, is located in the heart of Nicosia within the renovated Old Powerhouse, a building recognized with the Europa Nostra Award in 1994 for its architectural restoration. NiMAC stands as the oldest and largest contemporary art center in Cyprus.Since its inauguration on January 14, 1994, NiMAC has been dedicated to promoting fine arts in Cyprus, showcasing a diverse range of modern and contemporary art. The center has hosted over 80 exhibitions featuring both Cypriot and international artists, often in collaboration with museums and cultural institutions across Europe. These exhibitions frequently explore political and cultural themes, providing visitors with thought-provoking artistic expressions.NiMAC offers multifaceted pedagogical activities, including an Educational Centre for Children that provides specialized courses and workshops in contemporary art, engraving, cinema, and new media. The center also hosts international conferences, discussions, screenings and lectures. In addition to its exhibition spaces, NiMAC includes a restaurant, a library with art history resources, and a shop.
