Discover more about Fabrika Hill Cave Complex- Megalithic site

Fabrika Hill Cave Complex, also known as Fabrika Hill, Paphos Caves, or Paphos Catacombs, is a captivating historical landmark nestled in the heart of Paphos, Cyprus. This megalithic site offers a unique blend of ancient history and natural beauty, inviting visitors to step back in time and explore the remnants of civilizations past. The complex is a collection of attractions, including the ruins of the Roman Theatre Agios Lambrianos amphitheater, an ancient mosaic, catacombs (tunnels) in the bowels of the mountain, and a small cave temple Agios Agapitikos. These features are spread across Fabrika Hill, inviting exploration along its paths and through its man-made caves. Originally, the site served as catacombs during the Hellenistic period, dating back to the 3rd century BC and earlier. These catacombs were later expanded into cave homes for Christians seeking refuge from Roman persecution. As you wander through the complex, imagine the souls laid to rest within the small cavities carved into the limestone, and the families who once sought shelter in these dark recesses. The Roman theater, built in the 2nd century AD, could once seat 8,000 people. Architectural relics and archaeological finds illustrate the centuries-old history of the site, creating a unique and cohesive experience. On top of Fabrika Hill, the remains of a Hellenistic building offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The hill itself is of intense archaeological interest, with houses, fortifications, tombs, places of worship, and temporary accommodations dating from the Hellenistic to Turkish periods. Today, Fabrika Hill is an open-air museum that invites visitors to explore its ancient remnants and immerse themselves in the history of Cyprus. The site is open 24 hours a day and offers free admission, making it accessible to all. As you wander through the caves, catacombs, and ruins, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the civilizations that shaped this island and the enduring legacy they left behind.
