Artemis Trail Travel Guide

The Artemis Trail is a captivating 7km circular route that winds around Mount Olympus (also known as Chionistra), the highest peak in Cyprus. At an altitude of 1,850 meters, the trail provides panoramic views in every direction, showcasing the island's diverse landscapes. On clear days, you can see the coastline and the villages of Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia.Named after Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and wilderness, the trail immerses you in the Troodos National Forest Park, a Natura 2000 area. The path meanders through a black pine forest, home to rare flora species and fascinating rock formations. Keep an eye out for two ancient black pine trees, estimated to be over 500 years old. The trail also offers a glimpse into the island's past, with remnants of improvised fortifications built by Venetian generals during the final years of their rule in Cyprus in 1571 AD.The Artemis Trail is considered an easy hike, suitable for families and those with moderate fitness levels. The terrain is relatively flat, with only a slight uphill section near the ski center. The hike typically takes 2 to 3 hours to complete, allowing ample time to soak in the natural beauty and historical significance of the area.
