The Old Kakopetria

Palia Kakopetria, the old quarter of Kakopetria, is the most picturesque part of the village, showcasing traditional Cypriot architecture and village life. Located on the west side of Kakopetria, it's nestled between the Karkotis and Garillis rivers. The architecture is a highlight, with houses built close together, many featuring two stories, sloping tiled roofs, and wooden balconies. These homes are primarily constructed from local stone. Historically, the ground floor served as a warehouse for storing wine and food, and sometimes as animal enclosures, while families lived on the upper floor. Declared a protected cultural heritage site, Palia Kakopetria offers visitors a chance to wander its narrow, winding streets and experience the charm of a traditional Cypriot village. The village has been carefully restored, with efforts from both residents and governmental services ensuring the preservation of its original character.
