Discover more about Chantara Waterfall

Chantara Waterfall, also known as Hantara Waterfall, is a serene and picturesque natural attraction located in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, near the village of Foini. The name 'Chantara' comes from the Greek word 'anatra,' meaning 'water noise,' which aptly describes the soothing sound of the cascading water. The waterfall itself is formed by the waters of the Chantara stream, plunging from a height of eight meters over a rocky cliff. The water flows down the 'gavro,' a prominent rock formation, creating a small, refreshing pond at its base. Visitors can dip their feet in the cool water or, for the more adventurous, take a swim. The area surrounding Chantara Waterfall is teeming with lush vegetation, including plane trees, ivy, pine trees, golden oaks, sumac, strawberry trees, cistus, sage, and lavender. This creates a wonderful sensory experience with fragrant scents and the calming sounds of nature. The waterfall is particularly enchanting during the spring months when the snow melts, resulting in a stronger water flow. However, it remains a beautiful destination throughout the year, offering a cool escape in the summer and vibrant foliage in the autumn. Adding to the charm of the site are the remains of an old watermill that operated until the early 20th century, and carved steps on a rock to the right of the falls, offering glimpses into the area's history.
