Discover more about Vodopády Svatého Wolfganga

Vodopády Svatého Wolfganga, also known as St. Wolfgang Waterfalls, are located on the Menší Vltavice river near Vyšší Brod in the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. The name might be slightly misleading, as it's not one single, dramatic waterfall, but rather a series of cascades and smaller falls over large boulders. However, the overall effect is quite beautiful, especially during periods of higher water flow in the spring or after heavy rains. The cascades are set within a wild and natural riverbed, creating a serene and scenic environment. A wooden footbridge has been constructed near the largest cascade, providing visitors with a lovely vantage point. The water is notably cold, rarely exceeding 10°C even in summer. The area is also home to diverse flora and fauna; keep an eye out for the kingfisher. The falls are named after St. Wolfgang, a 10th-century bishop of Regensburg, a figure associated with the spread of Christianity in the Vyšší Brod area. The falls can be reached via the Opatská stezka I (Abbey Trail I), a nature trail that starts at the Vyšší Brod Monastery. This trail offers an informative and pleasant walk through the forest, with information panels detailing the local history and natural environment. The route is a loop, bringing you back to the monastery.
