The Weyermühlturm, constructed in the 14th century, is a prominent feature of Freistadt's well-preserved medieval fortifications. This semi-circular tower was strategically positioned between the city and its moat, playing a vital role in the town's defense. It protected an emergency mill that ensured the city had a supply of flour and bread during sieges. The tower's location was also the site of the "Posttürl," a small, secret third entry to the city. This gate was destroyed in a town fire in 1887. Today, wide steps stand where the gate once was, built later by the municipality.Unlike some of the other defense towers, the Weyermühlturm extends almost to the outer wall. While the eastern side of the city was naturally protected by a steep drop, the Weyermühlturm, along with the Dechanthofturm, provided essential defense.Today, the Weyermühlturm stands as a historical landmark, inviting visitors to imagine Freistadt's rich medieval past.
