The Dům U Čtyř Mamlasů, or House of the Four Giants, stands proudly on Freedom Square (náměstí Svobody) in Brno. Constructed between 1901 and 1902, this building is named for the four impressive, powerfully built male figures (Atlantes) that support the decorative pillars at its base. These figures, often referred to as 'mamlas' (giants or lummoxes), are actually Atlas figures from Greek mythology, condemned to hold up the heavens.The building was designed by German Wanderley for the V. Gerstbauer Foundation, replacing a former Renaissance-era house. The sculptures are the work of Antonín Tomola, and their faces display a range of emotions. The interior layout, which once housed a traditional confectionery, was designed by A. Prastorfer.The Dům U Čtyř Mamlasů is more than just a visually stunning building; it's a symbol of strength and a testament to Brno's rich architectural heritage.
