Getting there

Walking

Nová věž is located at Žleby 609, Znojmo 2. From Masarykovo náměstí, walk northeast towards Obroková street. Continue onto Hradní street, then turn right onto Žleby street. The tower will be on your left, near the Kapucínská zahrada.

Public Transport

From Znojmo train or bus station, take bus lines 801-809 to the 'Nová nemocnice' stop. From there, walk along Milady Horákové street, then turn left onto Žleby street. The tower will be on your right, near the Kapucínská zahrada. A single public transport ticket costs approximately 20 CZK.

Parking

Paid parking is available at Masarykovo náměstí, about a 5-minute walk to Nová věž. Parking rates are 10 CZK for the first hour, 30 CZK for the second, and 40 CZK for each subsequent hour. Alternatively, free parking can be found on Kozeluzska street, an 8-minute walk away.

Overview

Nová věž, or New Tower, is a significant element of Znojmo's historical fortifications. Likely constructed after the unsuccessful siege of Znojmo by Austrian and Hungarian forces in 1404, the tower has undergone several transformations, including a late 16th-century conversion of its upper space into an observation point.Inside the tower, visitors can explore an exhibit of armor spanning four periods, beginning with the era of Přemysl Otakar II, showcasing the evolution from heavy armor to lighter equipment used with firearms. The tower is part of the tour of the city's fortifications.Nová věž provides a unique vantage point for viewing Znojmo and its surroundings.
