Discover more about Old Town Hall - Tourist Information Centre

Brno's Old Town Hall, or Stará radnice, stands as a testament to the city's rich history, with its origins tracing back to the 13th century when Brno gained its city status. It holds the distinction of being the oldest non-religious building in Brno. Until 1935, it served as the city's town hall. Today, the Old Town Hall functions as a cultural center, hosting concerts, festivals, theatrical performances, and film screenings. Visitors can explore the Renaissance halls and climb the 63-meter-high tower for panoramic views of Brno. The tower is accessible via 173 steps. The courtyard, featuring Renaissance arcades with early Baroque touches, is a venue for various events. Inside, you'll find the Tourist Information Centre, the Master Mason Anton Pilgram exhibition, and the Quiet Heroism exhibition. The building also showcases the city's famous legends, including the Brno Dragon (actually a crocodile) and the Brno Wheel. The dragon legend tells of a butcher who slayed a threatening dragon with a lime-filled animal skin. The wheel legend recounts a craftsman's feat of rolling a wheel from Lednice to Brno. Another legend surrounds the crooked pinnacle on the Gothic portal, said to be the architect's revenge for not being paid.
