Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Skalky u Sedlece from Brno, take a train from Brno hlavní nádraží (main station) to Mikulov. The train journey takes about 1 hour. Once in Mikulov, transfer to a local bus towards Sedlec. Buses run regularly, but check the schedule in advance. After arriving in Sedlec, you can walk or take a short taxi ride to Skalky u Sedlece. Bus fare is approximately 30 CZK.

  • Walking

    From the Sedlec train station, walk towards the I/40 road in the direction of Mikulov. At Sedlecký mlýn (Sedlec Mill), follow the path along the Nový rybník (New Pond), cross the railway tracks, and continue straight. From the nature park, walk uphill to the left. The summit is approximately 2 km from there.

  • Driving

    From the I/40 road, turn off at Sedlecký mlýn and drive across the Nový rybník dam, passing the railway crossing. About 200 meters beyond the crossing, there is a no-entry sign and a small nature parking area. Parking is free.

Skalky u Sedlece is a nature preserve situated in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, near the village of Sedlec and the Austrian border. This area features rolling hills that rise from the surrounding plains near Lednice-Valtice. Historically, the area was used for limestone quarrying, with the stone used in local constructions. Until 1989, Skalky u Sedlece was part of the restricted zone along the Iron Curtain, which limited public access. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the area was opened to the public and declared a nature reserve in 2005. Today, Skalky u Sedlece is home to rare species of plants and insects.
