Skalky u Sedlece Travel Guide

Skalky u Sedlece is a nature preserve situated in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, near the village of Sedlec and the Austrian border. This area features rolling hills that rise from the surrounding plains near Lednice-Valtice. The landscape is characterized by a mix of forests and grasslands, creating a habitat for diverse plant and animal life.Historically, the area was used for limestone quarrying, with the stone used in local constructions. Until 1989, Skalky u Sedlece was part of the restricted zone along the Iron Curtain, which limited public access. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the area was opened to the public and declared a nature reserve in 2005. Today, Skalky u Sedlece is home to rare species of plants and insects. Visitors can explore well-marked trails, enjoy views of the surrounding countryside, and observe the local wildlife. The preserve is particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn when the vegetation displays vibrant colors.The preserve's diverse environment makes it ideal for leisurely walks, nature photography, and quiet reflection.
