    Cikánská slať is located approximately 2 km southwest of Modrava. From the center of Modrava, follow the green marked trail. The walk is roughly 3 kilometers and takes you through varied terrain. This path is for pedestrians only.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Cikánská slať using public transport, take a bus to Modrava from larger towns such as Kašperské Hory or Vimperk. Bus line 974 connects Sušice, Kašperské Hory, Srní, Modrava and Kvilda. Once you arrive in Modrava, follow the green marked trail. The walk is roughly 3 kilometers and takes you through varied terrain. Bus schedules should be checked in advance. A single bus fare from Kašperské Hory to Modrava is approximately 30-50 CZK.

  • Car

    If driving to Cikánská slať, start from Modrava. Head east towards Kašperské Hory. After about 1.5 km, a parking area on the right serves as the main access point. From there, follow the marked hiking trail for approximately 1 km to Cikánská slať. Parking costs approximately 50 CZK per day.

Cikánská slať (also referred to as Cikánská Sláň) is a distinctive raised peat bog nestled within the Šumava National Park, approximately 2 km southwest of Modrava in the Czech Republic. Situated on the southern slope of Modrava Mountain at an elevation of 1,103 meters, this elongated peat bog stretches east to west, narrowing in the middle. Once drained by previous interventions, Cikánská slať is now undergoing revitalization efforts to restore its natural waterlogged state. The landscape features a mix of spruce trees, dwarf pines, peat mosses, common cottongrass, heather, bog bilberry, cranberries, marsh andromeda, sedges, and round-leaved sundew. Several small lakes dot the bog's center, adding to its scenic appeal. The bog covers an area of approximately 102.01 hectares, with an estimated peat reserve of 1,341,000 m³ and a maximum thickness of 620 cm. Visitors can explore Cikánská slať via marked trails, as the area lies within the first zone of the Šumava National Park, where movement is restricted to designated paths. In winter, snowshoeing is a popular activity, with a route leading from Modrava to Březník through Cikánská slať.
