Discover more about Hauswaldská studánka

Hauswaldská Studánka, or the Hauswald Spring, is a place of peace and reflection located near Srní-Kašperské Hory in the heart of the Šumava National Park. This seemingly simple spring holds a rich history, having been a significant pilgrimage site for centuries. The location was once home to the Hauswald Chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which drew countless visitors seeking healing and solace from its supposedly miraculous waters. The area was even referred to as the 'small Šumava Lourdes'.The first chapel was built in 1820 by grateful believers who attributed their healing to the spring's water. As the number of pilgrims grew, a larger chapel was constructed in 1860. However, due to poor construction, it quickly fell into disrepair and had to be closed. In 1901, a new church was built, featuring a statue of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes. Sadly, the chapel was destroyed in 1957 by the Czechoslovak army during the establishment of a military zone. Fortunately, the statue of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes was saved and relocated to the church in nearby Srní.In 2006, the foundations of the chapel and the spring were restored thanks to the efforts of the civic association Karel Klostermann. Today, visitors can explore the peaceful site, reflect on its history, and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The spring is easily accessible and is a stop along the educational trail around Kostelní vrch. While some claim the water has healing properties, it is not tested and therefore not recommended for drinking. Nevertheless, Hauswaldská Studánka remains a special place for those seeking tranquility and a connection to nature and history.
