Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from any location in Šumava. Navigate to the nearest major road leading to Bayerisch Eisenstein. From there, take the B11 road towards Bayerisch Eisenstein. Follow the signs towards Großer Arber. Once you reach the parking area at the foot of the mountain, you will need to park your car. Parking fees may be applicable, typically around €5 for the day.

• Hiking

  From the parking area, embark on the hiking trail that leads to the Großer Arber Gipfelkreuz. The hike is approximately 2.5 kilometers and will take about 1-1.5 hours. The trail is well-marked, and you will encounter beautiful views along the way. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear and water.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transport, take a bus from major towns in Šumava to Bayerisch Eisenstein. Check the local bus schedules for routes and timings. Once you arrive in Bayerisch Eisenstein, you can either walk to the base of Großer Arber or take a local taxi to the parking area. Bus fares typically range from €2-€5 depending on the distance.

• Cable Car

  Alternatively, you can use the cable car service that operates from the base of Großer Arber to the summit area. This is a convenient option especially during the winter months. The cable car ride costs approximately €10 for a round trip. After reaching the top, you can enjoy a short walk to the Gipfelkreuz, which is situated at 1,456m above sea level.
