Discover more about Výběh makaků

The macaque enclosure at Olomouc Zoo provides an up-close encounter with a troop of Japanese macaques (macaca fuscata) in a specially designed habitat. Opened in 2002, the enclosure mimics the natural environment of these primates, allowing them to roam freely. What sets this exhibit apart is the 41-meter-long wooden walkway suspended seven meters above the ground, offering visitors a unique vantage point. Visitors can walk through the enclosure, observing the macaques as they play, forage, and interact with each other. Keepers are present to ensure the safety of both visitors and animals, and to educate people about the macaque's behavior and habitat. The macaques have access to heated shelters for the winter months, ensuring their well-being year-round. The enclosure is designed to provide a stimulating environment for the macaques, with climbing structures, water features, and varied terrain. This encourages natural behaviors and provides enrichment for the animals. The exhibit is one of the zoo's most popular attractions, offering an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
