Jechovec Nature Reserve: A Springtime Spectacle

Jechovec Nature Reserve, situated in the Markvartice Highlands near Olšany-Telč, is a captivating natural haven, particularly renowned for its stunning display of spring snowflakes. Established in 1982, the reserve spans approximately 3 hectares of a damp, often waterlogged forest, creating an ideal habitat for these delicate flowers. The reserve's landscape is dominated by alder trees, some as old as 90 years, beneath which a dense carpet of spring snowflakes flourishes. This creates a breathtaking spectacle in early spring, typically from February to April, with the peak bloom in March. The sheer abundance of these flowers transforms the forest floor into a sea of white, offering a memorable experience for visitors. Beyond the spring snowflakes, Jechovec is also home to other rare plants, including the mountain arnica and ostrich fern. The reserve's diverse ecosystem and serene atmosphere make it a valuable site for nature conservation and a delightful destination for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. A short walk west of the reserve, visitors can find a chapel flanked by two notable trees: a large-leaved lime and a wych elm, adding to the area's charm.
