Discover more about Městská věž

Rising 75 meters above Třebíč, the Městská věž, or Town Tower, is an unmissable landmark with a rich history dating back to 1335. It was around this time that Margrave Charles granted Třebíč its town charter, and the tower was erected as part of the city's defensive fortifications. Over the centuries, the tower has faced numerous challenges, including fires and storms. In 1468, Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus's troops attempted to undermine and topple the tower, but its solid foundations proved too strong. After repairs, the tower opened to the public in 1997. Ascend the 162 steps to the observation deck, 35 meters above ground, and be rewarded with breathtaking views of Třebíč, including UNESCO-listed landmarks. The tower also features a former watchman's apartment and a belfry with historic bells. Its clock faces, with a diameter of 5.5 meters, are among the largest in Europe. The tower connects to the Church of St. Martin, with the tower predating the connection. Today, the Městská věž stands as a testament to Třebíč's resilience and offers visitors a unique glimpse into the town's past and present.
