Vodni dum: Exploring the Wonders of Water

Vodni dum, located in Hulice near the Švihov Reservoir (also known as Želivka), is an engaging and educational visitor center focused on the multifaceted nature of water. The center aims to inform visitors about the significance of water for both the environment and human life, using the Želivka European Site of Community Importance as a prime example. The Water House features both indoor and outdoor interactive exhibits. Inside, you'll find displays showcasing the microscopic world of aquatic organisms, underwater flora and fauna in large aquariums, and a presentation on the water cycle. A unique exhibit showcases original wall paintings from a church in Dolní Kralovice, dating back to the era of Charles IV. Outside, the Water House boasts a playful atrium with water games that are particularly enjoyable during the warmer months. Visitors can experiment with water pumps, mills, and dams, offering hands-on learning experiences. A nature trail around the Water House provides further insights into water management and its importance in the landscape. Vodni dum is operated by the Czech Union for Nature Conservation (ČSOP) Vlašim, an organization dedicated to protecting natural and cultural heritage.
