Discover more about Zemědělský dvůr Lyra

Located just beyond the Bránský Pond, opposite the Žďár nad Sázavou monastery, lies the Zemědělský dvůr Lyra, an agricultural court with a distinctive design. Its name, Lyra, is derived from its layout, which resembles a lyre. The farm was likely designed by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel, though this is not definitively documented. Construction was completed before 1722. The farm's design incorporates seven buildings, including barns and stables, arranged to create the shape of a lyre when viewed from above. This unique design was commissioned by Abbot Vejmluva, who sought to integrate the practical function of the farm with the spiritual and aesthetic values of the monastery. The symmetrical composition of the utilitarian buildings reflects Santini's architectural style. The farm's design also cleverly links its visual axis to the windows of the monastery's prelature. While later renovations have somewhat obscured its original Baroque character, the Zemědělský dvůr Lyra continues to serve its agricultural purpose. Visitors can appreciate the ingenuity of its design and its historical significance as an example of Baroque architecture and agricultural planning.
