Hradišťský hill Travel Guide

Hradišťský Hill, or Hradišťský vrch, is located near the spa town of Konstantinovy Lázně in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic. This elongated basalt 'table mountain' was the site of one of the largest prehistoric fortified settlements in Western Bohemia during the Late Bronze Age. Archaeological research indicates settlement from as early as the 9th century. The area's defensive merits and interior water sources made it a strategic location.Today, Hradišťský Hill is a protected national forest and nature reserve, offering visitors a chance to explore its natural beauty and historical past. Hiking trails meander through dense woodlands, leading to stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The diverse ecosystem supports a variety of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature lovers and wildlife watchers.Visitors can explore the remains of the ancient fortifications, including visible rampart walls and access gates, particularly near the eastern gate. A nature trail with information boards (in Czech) provides insights into the hill's history and natural features. On the western edge of the hill, an abandoned quarry has been transformed into a natural swimming area with a sandy beach (entrance fee required).
