Discover more about Nebílovy Castle

Nestled in the serene countryside of West Bohemia, approximately 16 km south of Pilsen, lies Nebílovy Castle, a captivating testament to Viennese Baroque architecture. This magnificent manor house, originally built in the Renaissance style, underwent a remarkable transformation in the 18th century under the vision of architect Jakub Auguston, possibly with designs from Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, the architect behind Vienna's Belvedere Palace. Nebílovy Castle comprises two crescent-shaped buildings facing each other, once connected by arcade corridors and terraces. The castle's exterior showcases a beautiful yellow and white Baroque facade. Inside, visitors can explore the meticulously restored salons adorned with 18th and 19th-century furniture. The highlight is the ballroom, boasting unique wall paintings by Antonín Tuvora, depicting a tropical jungle with exotic birds, butterflies, and lush vegetation. This artistic masterpiece covers nearly 400 square meters, creating an immersive and unforgettable experience. The castle's history is as rich as its architecture. Initially commissioned by Count Adam Jindřich of Steinau in 1706, construction was completed by the Černín family after his death. For over a century, the castle served as a utility building and even a fertilizer depot, leading to its deterioration. However, since 1968, the state has been gradually restoring Nebílovy Castle to its former glory, opening its doors to the public in 1998. Today, Nebílovy Castle hosts guided tours that delve into its history, architecture, and the lives of its past inhabitants. Visitors can also explore the Chapel of Saint Anthony and admire the current exhibitions in the chateau's exhibition room. The castle grounds offer a peaceful retreat, with meticulously manicured lawns and vibrant flower beds. Throughout the year, Nebílovy Castle comes alive with cultural events, including exhibitions and concerts, providing a dynamic backdrop for visitors to engage with the local culture.
