Rising above the town of Přimda, in the Pilsen region, Primda Castle stands as a striking testament to medieval history. As one of the oldest stone castles in Bohemia, second only to Prague Castle, its origins trace back to the early 12th century. The castle was first mentioned in 1126, when Duke Soběslav I rebuilt it as an important border fortress. Throughout its history, Primda Castle served various roles, including a royal prison. It guarded a trade route from Prague and Pilsen. The castle's ownership passed through various hands, including noble families like the Schwamberks. By the 17th century, however, it fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Today, visitors can explore the castle ruins, including a massive prismatic tower dating back to the first half of the 12th century. Although the inner courtyard is closed, guided tours are available on Saturdays, providing insights into the castle's history.
