Discover more about Spa Colonnade

The Spa Colonnade in Mariánské Lázně stands as a testament to the town's historical significance as a premier spa destination. Constructed between 1888 and 1889, the colonnade, sometimes referred to as Maxim Gorky Colonnade, is a remarkable example of neo-Baroque architecture. Viennese architects Miksch and Niedzielski designed the cast-iron structure, which was then assembled by local builder Johann Koenig on the site of the original 'Kursal'. Measuring 119 meters in length, it is the longest colonnade in the Czech Republic. The Colonnade has always been considered the center of spa life. Inside, visitors can admire the ceiling frescoes by Josef Vyleťal, depicting man's desire to fly, and bronze reliefs by Antonín Kuchař. The colonnade also houses several of the town's famous mineral springs. Miraculously, the Colonnade survived the Second World War, despite the threat of being dismantled for weapons production. In 1951, it was named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky. The Colonnade underwent extensive reconstruction between 1973 and 1981. Today, the Spa Colonnade is a protected national cultural monument and remains a vibrant hub for visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation.
