Discover more about Air Mobility Command Museum

The Air Mobility Command Museum, located at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, stands as the only museum in the U.S. dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of military airlift and air refueling. Established in 1986, the museum is housed in Hangar 1301, a historic World War II-era site where top-secret rocket development took place. This hangar is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum boasts a collection of over 30 aircraft, many of which are fully restored U.S. military cargo and tanker aircraft. Exhibits within the museum highlight significant airlift operations from the Vietnam and Korean Wars, as well as the Berlin airlift. Visitors can explore the inside of some of the aircraft and view exhibits detailing air cargo transportation during various conflicts. In addition to the aircraft, the museum features a retired Dover AFB control tower cab that served from 1956 to 2009, offering a glimpse into the base's operational history. Other attractions include flight simulators and a commemoration park. The museum also displays a complete set of Lockheed airlifters used by the Air Force and Army since World War II, with some being the first, last, or only examples of their kind. The museum's mission is to collect, preserve, and exhibit artifacts and stories related to military airlift and air refueling, as well as to illustrate the history of Dover Air Force Base. The Air Mobility Command Museum is part of the USAF Museum System. It provides resources for students and researchers interested in military aviation history.
