Lake Gerar Park offers a peaceful respite from the lively atmosphere of Rehoboth Beach. This 15-acre park is centered around a freshwater lake, providing calming views and a tranquil environment. The park features a fishing pier, inviting anglers of all ages to cast a line and enjoy the peaceful waters. A shaded playground area near the Henlopen Hotel provides a fun space for children to play. Lake Gerar Park is also home to Navigator's Park, the city's Italian garden, located on the west end of the lake. The park's serene lake attracts local wildlife, making it a perfect spot for birdwatching and nature observation. The park is open year-round, offering a refreshing escape in every season. Historically, Lake Gerar was once marshland. In the 1920s, Irenee duPont spearheaded an effort to improve the area by dynamiting the lake bottom to drain the fouled water and create a park. Today, Lake Gerar Park stands as a testament to his vision, providing a valuable green space for the community and visitors alike.

    Getting There

    Walking

    Lake Gerar Park is located behind the Henlopen Hotel at the North End of the boardwalk. From the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, walk north towards the Henlopen Hotel. The park is a short walk inland from the boardwalk. There are multiple access points to the park from the surrounding streets.

    Public Transport

    The DART First State bus service provides transportation to Rehoboth Beach. From the Lewes Transit Center or the Rehoboth Park & Ride, take the DART Beach Bus to Rehoboth Avenue. Get off at a stop near the Henlopen Hotel; the park will be a short walk away. A one-way fare is $2.

    Parking

    Parking is available on the streets surrounding Lake Gerar Park. From May 15 to September 15, parking meters and permits are in effect. Payment in metered areas is required from 10 am to 10 pm. Parking fees are nonrefundable, and the city is not responsible for lost or stolen permits. There are also 30-minute parking spaces available.
