Discover more about Lewes CanalFront Park

Lewes CanalFront Park, a three-acre haven in historic Lewes, Delaware, blends natural beauty with historical significance. Situated along the Lewes & Rehoboth Canal, the park's location has been a center of activity since 1631, when Dutch settlers first established a community there. For over 250 years, the site served as a boat-building and launching hub. Today, the park features a cedar canalfront boardwalk, a village green, and a fishing pier. Lighted walkways, benches, and shade arbors offer spots for relaxation, while native waterfront plants enhance the landscape. A playground caters to children, and a boat ramp provides access for kayaks and canoes. The park is adjacent to the 1938 Lightship Overfalls, a historic landmark, as well as the Lewes Life Saving Station, and the Lewes Little League ball fields. The Net House, once a storage and repair facility for fishing nets, now serves as the park headquarters and celebrates Lewes' maritime heritage. Throughout the year, the park hosts various events, including concerts, outdoor movies, and community gatherings. The park's design considered the impact of flood regimes, managing traffic, and preserving the historic streetscape. The park quickly recovered from Super Storm Sandy in 2012, demonstrating its resilience.
