Delcastle Recreational Park is a vibrant center of activity nestled in Wilmington, Delaware. Spanning 400 acres, the park caters to a wide array of interests, making it a popular destination for athletes, nature enthusiasts, and families alike.Originally, the land was acquired by the New Castle County Workhouse in 1915-1916 and was known as Delcastle Farms. The farm served as an agricultural program for inmates, teaching them valuable skills and providing food for the community. Over 150 inmates resided on the property in the 1940s. The farm was a diverse enterprise, including a dairy, vegetable gardens, and livestock. The farm closed in 1968, and in 1971, the county established the Delcastle Recreation Center and Golf Course.Today, visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities, including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, street hockey, tennis, and volleyball facilities. A 1.7-mile paved walking trail winds through the park, offering scenic views of open spaces and high-grass meadows. Nature lovers can also appreciate the park's natural beauty and observe local wildlife. Delcastle also features a public 18-hole golf course and driving range. The park also offers picnic areas with grills, fitness circuits, and a brand new playground.
