Delcastle Recreational Park is a vibrant center of activity located in Wilmington, Delaware. Spanning 400 acres, the park provides a diverse range of recreational opportunities and a glimpse into local history. Originally, the land was home to the Delcastle Prison Farm, which was acquired by the New Castle County Workhouse in 1915-1916. The farm served as an agricultural program for inmates, teaching them valuable skills while also providing food for the community. The farm produced a variety of vegetables, raised livestock, and operated a dairy until it closed in 1968. In 1971, the county transformed the area into the Delcastle Recreation Center and Golf Course, which quickly became a popular destination. Today, visitors can enjoy various amenities, including baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, a street hockey rink, and a fitness circuit. A 1.7-mile paved walking trail winds through the park, offering scenic views of open spaces and high-grass meadows.
