Getting There

Driving

To reach the Delaware View House, navigate to Old Mine Road within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. From Route 80, take Exit 1 and follow Old Mine Road. The house is approximately 1.5 miles past Millbrook Village on your right. Alternatively, from Route 94 in Blairstown, take Route 602 to Millbrook Village, then turn right onto Old Mine Road. There are no entrance fees for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area itself. Parking is available near the site, though it may be limited.

If you are already exploring the Millbrook Village, the Delaware View House is a 1.5-mile walk north on Old Mine Road. Old Mine Road itself is a scenic route, and the walk offers views of the surrounding landscape. Remember to stay on designated paths and be aware of vehicle traffic. There are no fees for walking to the site.

The Delaware View House, situated on Old Mine Road in Walpack Township, New Jersey, offers a glimpse into the region's vibrant history. Built initially as a Greek Revival farmhouse around 1837 by Charles Yetter, the property was sold to Charles Huff in 1836. In 1892, a 2 1/2 story addition transformed it into the Flatbrook Hotel, a hunting lodge owned by Samuel Garris. Around the early 1900s, it became known as the Delaware View House, and by 1910, Bertha Konkle leased the property and officially named it the Delaware View House. In 1926, Andrew and Nelda Salama, Russian immigrants, purchased the house and renamed it Salamovka, using it as a summer retreat for artists and fellow Russian refugees. The house reverted to Garris in 1942 when the Salamas defaulted on their mortgage. Overlooking the Delaware Valley, the Delaware View House stands as one of the few remaining structures from the Tocks Island Dam project era, which led to the creation of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Today, the National Park Service owns the property, and it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While the house has been vacant for many years and in need of stabilization, its historical significance and scenic views continue to attract visitors.
