Brecknock County Park: A Blend of History and Recreation

Brecknock County Park, located just off U.S. 13 south of Dover in Camden, Delaware, is more than just a park; it's a journey through history and nature. This 86-acre park, Kent County's flagship community park, was once a thriving farm and mill site, with its origins dating back to 1680 when the land was granted to Alexander Humphrey. The Isaac Branch, a stream that runs through the park, powered milling operations for centuries, contributing to the area's prosperity.Today, visitors can explore the park's historical roots by visiting the Brecknock House, a colonial dwelling showcasing a unique architectural evolution with sections built across different periods. Fragments of the Howell Mill, which was a two-story frame structure on a brick footing in 1851, can be seen from the nature trail.
