The Delaware Contemporary: Wilmington's Hub for Contemporary Art

The Delaware Contemporary, founded in 1979, stands as Delaware's only contemporary art museum. Originally known as the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts (DCCA), it rebranded in 2015 to reflect its focus on contemporary art. The museum plays a vital role in promoting the growth and understanding of contemporary arts within the community. Located on Wilmington's Riverfront since 2000, the 33,000-square-foot building features seven galleries, 26 artist studios, an auditorium, classrooms, and a museum shop. This expansive space allows the museum to host over 24 exhibitions annually, showcasing a diverse range of artists and mediums. The Delaware Contemporary is a non-collecting museum, allowing it to focus on exhibitions and programs that explore cultural, political, religious, and social issues.
