The Occupation Museum
The Occupation Museum (Besættelsesmuseet), Aarhus
Interactive spiral fountain on Aarhus’ harbourfront where jets of water, inspired by the city’s starry skies, become a playful urban artwork and gathering spot.
Endless Connection is a playful, contemporary fountain on the Aarhus waterfront at Havnepladsen, where spiralling walls of water suddenly rise and vanish, inviting you to dash through if you dare. Designed by Danish artist Jeppe Hein and inspired by the starry skies over Aarhus, the installation transforms an open harbour square into a kinetic artwork and urban playground. By day it is a lively family favourite; by evening, subtle lighting and harbour views give the fountain a more atmospheric, reflective character.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
City bus from central Aarhus
From the central districts of Aarhus, several city bus lines serve stops within a 5–10 minute walk of Havnepladsen and the Endless Connection fountain. Typical journeys from residential neighbourhoods take 10–20 minutes, with departures every 10–20 minutes during the day. A single adult ticket on the city network usually costs around 22–28 DKK, and tickets can be bought via local transport apps or ticket machines. Buses are generally low-floor and suitable for travellers with limited mobility.
On foot from Aarhus city centre
Endless Connection is easily reached on foot from the historic centre of Aarhus and the pedestrian shopping streets. Most central hotels and sights lie within roughly a 10–20 minute walk, depending on your starting point. The route is flat and paved, passing through busy urban streets and the harbourfront, and is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs in dry conditions. Allow a little extra time in bad weather, as the waterfront can feel exposed in strong wind or heavy rain.
Bicycle within Aarhus
Aarhus is very bike-friendly, and the harbourfront cycle routes make it straightforward to reach Havnepladsen by bicycle from most inner-city neighbourhoods in about 5–15 minutes. The terrain is mostly flat, with marked bike lanes or shared paths. You can use personal bikes or local rental schemes, which typically charge from around 100–150 DKK per day for a standard city bike. Take care on windy days near the water, and use bike stands away from the fountain’s spray.
Car or taxi within the city
Arriving by car, you can use public car parks in the central harbour area, generally located within a 5–10 minute walk of the fountain. Short stays in multistorey or surface car parks usually cost in the region of 15–25 DKK per hour, with higher fees in the most central zones. Traffic in the core of Aarhus can be slow at peak times, so allow 20–30 minutes to cross the city by car. Taxis are widely available and meter-based, with typical inner-city fares starting around 80–120 DKK for short rides.
