Elia is a monumental sculpture located in Herning, Denmark, conceived by the renowned artist Ingvar Cronhammar and unveiled in 2001. This impressive structure comprises a massive steel hemisphere with a diameter of 60 meters, rising 11 meters above the ground. Four staircases, each aligned with the cardinal directions, lead visitors to a platform atop the dome, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. At the center of the sculpture lies a gas burner, which, at random intervals, emits an 8.4-meter-high flame, creating a dramatic visual spectacle. Elia is also designed to interact with natural elements; during thunderstorms, it functions as a lightning rod, channeling strikes into its resonant chamber below, producing deep, echoing sounds.
