A small stone with a big name

Set beside the working harbour on Havnevej, this memorial stone (mindesten) honours Holger Drachmann (1846–1908), one of Denmark’s best-known writers and a talented marine painter. The monument is deliberately simple: a natural stone fitted with a bronze relief portrait and Drachmann’s signature, letting the harbour’s wind, gulls and shifting light do the rest of the storytelling.

Why Drachmann matters here

Hornbæk wasn’t just a pretty backdrop. Drachmann is closely tied to the town’s cultural memory, and he died here in January 1908.
