Møns Vævehus is a multifaceted textile studio located on Storegade in the historic town of Stege on the island of Møn. Founded and operated by Gitte, a professionally trained hand-weaver with formal education from the Danish Textile and Dyer's Guild, the studio represents a rare blend of working craft space, educational venue, retail shop, and social gathering place. The studio's philosophy centers on making weaving accessible to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced weavers seeking dedicated loom time.

The Working Workshop

At the heart of Møns Vævehus lies an active weaving workshop equipped with 15 looms, all featuring contramarche mechanisms that allow for complex weaving techniques. Gitte's personal loom, a Glimåkra shaft loom with 10 shafts and treadles, stands as a centerpiece and testament to her commitment to the craft. The studio operates regular open weaving sessions every Thursday, running from 10:00 to 22:00 (closing at 20:00 if all regular weavers have departed). These sessions provide access to the full range of looms and create a community atmosphere where weavers of different levels work side by side, sharing techniques and inspiration.

Learning and Instruction

Weaving instruction is central to the studio's mission. Gitte offers courses tailored to individual interests and experience levels, whether participants wish to master fundamental techniques or explore advanced patterns. The studio also stocks an extensive selection of weaving resources, including instructional books and reference materials, supporting both formal classes and self-directed learning.
