Train and walk
Arrive at Viborg railway station on regional trains from Aarhus, Langå or Struer, with journey times typically between 45 and 80 minutes depending on route. From the station it is an easy 10–15 minute walk through the city centre on level pavements, suitable for most visitors with luggage or prams. There is no additional cost beyond your train ticket, and services usually run at least once per hour during the day.
Local bus
Several city bus routes stop within a few minutes’ walk of the pedestrian zone around Sct. Mathias Centret, linking residential districts with the centre. Typical travel times from outer neighbourhoods are 10–20 minutes, and single tickets normally cost in the range of 20–30 DKK, purchasable via ticket machines or mobile apps. Buses generally run more frequently on weekdays than evenings and Sundays, so check timings if returning late.
Car
Driving into central Viborg from nearby towns such as Skive, Randers or Silkeborg usually takes 30–60 minutes via main roads. Around the mall and in its parking garage there are many public spaces, often offering up to three hours of free parking controlled by a parking disc. Be aware that parts of the inner city form a paid parking zone where registration via machine or app is required, and fines are issued for overstays or missing discs.
Bicycle
For those staying in Viborg or nearby suburbs, cycling to Sct. Mathias Centret is straightforward, with typical journeys from residential areas taking 10–25 minutes on mostly flat streets. Denmark’s cycling culture means marked lanes and bike-friendly junctions on main approaches, though the final stretch through the pedestrian zone requires dismounting and walking your bike. There is usually informal space to park and lock bicycles close to the centre entrances at no charge.
