Discover more about Syndicate Nature Trail

Located in the foothills of Morne Diablotin, Dominica's highest mountain, the Syndicate Nature Trail is a celebrated hiking path within the Morne Diablotin National Park. This 2.8-kilometer (1.7-mile) loop trail provides an enchanting journey into the heart of a tropical rainforest. Constructed in 1993 with support from the RARE Centre for Tropical Conservation and Birdlife International, the trail and Parrot Preserve aim to provide visitors with a genuine rainforest experience. The Syndicate area is popular for bird watching, as it is a sanctuary for some of the 51 species of local and migrant birds that may be found in the Park. The preserve offers birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts a unique opportunity to observe these species in their natural environment. The Sisserou Parrot, Dominica's national bird, can be seen on Dominica's coat of arms. The trail is generally well-maintained, with some gentle inclines and occasional stairs, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable walk. Interpretive signs dot the trail, providing insights into the local ecology and the medicinal properties of various plants. The Syndicate Nature Trail holds a significant place in Dominica's conservation history. The trail was temporarily closed following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in September 2017 but reopened in 2018 after considerable efforts to clear and restore access.
