Discover more about Titou Gorge

Titou Gorge, whose name translates to 'little throat' in Creole, is a natural wonder located in Dominica's Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gorge was formed by ancient volcanic lava flows that cooled and split open, creating a narrow passageway. Over time, freshwater cascaded through the rocks, smoothing the surfaces and creating a unique swimming experience. Visitors to Titou Gorge can swim through a series of natural caverns, surrounded by towering rock walls. Shafts of sunlight filter through the opening above, creating an ethereal glow that illuminates the depths below. The swim is relatively short, typically taking only 5-10 minutes to reach a hidden waterfall at the end of the gorge. The water can be cold and the current strong, especially after heavy rainfall, so a life vest is recommended. Titou Gorge has also served as a filming location for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The scene where Captain Jack Sparrow tumbles down a gorge in a vine cage was filmed here.
