Middleham Falls: Dominica's Majestic Cascade

Nestled within the heart of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Middleham Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder and Dominica's tallest waterfall. The falls cascade approximately 275 feet (84 meters) into a crystal-clear pool, creating a stunning spectacle surrounded by dense, mountainous rainforest.The hike to Middleham Falls is a rewarding experience, taking you through a vibrant and diverse rainforest. The trail, approximately 3.5 to 4 miles round trip, is considered moderately challenging, with some steep sections and an elevation gain of around 1000 feet. Along the way, you'll encounter lush greenery, towering trees, and the sounds of the rainforest. Keep an eye out for the island's unique wildlife, including the Jaco Parrot and other colorful birds.Once you arrive at the falls, a viewing platform provides a perfect vantage point to admire the majestic cascade and capture memorable photos. For a more immersive experience, carefully navigate the rocks to reach the pool and enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool water. The falls create a constant mist, often painting a beautiful rainbow across the scene.The trail to Middleham Falls was built by the Forestry, Wildlife & Parks Division through a 950-acre tract of tropical rainforest. This land was donated to the Government of Dominica by John D. Archbold through The Nature Conservancy, ensuring the preservation of this natural treasure. A section of Segment 4 of the Waitukubuli National Trail, the longest hiking trail in the Caribbean, traverses the Middleham area.
