Discover more about Dominica

Dominica is a captivating island that distinguishes itself from other Caribbean destinations with its dramatic natural beauty and commitment to eco-tourism. The island's indigenous name, 'Waitukubuli,' meaning 'tall is her body,' reflects its mountainous terrain, characterized by nine volcanoes, three national parks, and 365 rivers. This abundance of freshwater sources contributes to the island's vibrant rainforests, which cover approximately two-thirds of the land. Dominica's rugged landscape has historically limited large-scale tourism development, allowing it to preserve its unspoiled character. Instead of sprawling resorts, visitors will find eco-lodges and a focus on sustainable practices. The island's attractions are primarily nature-based, including the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Boiling Lake, Trafalgar Falls, and the Indian River. Adventurous travelers can explore the island's diverse terrain through hiking, diving, and snorkeling. The Waitukubuli National Trail, a 115-mile (185km) hiking trail, traverses the island from north to south, offering a unique opportunity to experience Dominica's remote villages and stunning scenery. Dominica's rich Creole culture, influenced by West African, indigenous Kalinago, and European traditions, is evident in its music, cuisine, and festivals.
