Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, which is Quito. Drive south on the Pan-American Highway (E28) towards Puyo. The drive is approximately 6-7 hours. Once you reach Puyo, take the road towards the town of Tena. From Tena, continue on the E45 road towards the Tiputini River. The last segment will require you to take a boat as there are no roads directly to the Tiputini Biodiversity Station. You should arrange for a local boat service at the Tiputini River dock, which will take you directly to the station.
Public Transportation
Start by taking a bus from Quito to Puyo. Buses leave from the Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe and the journey takes about 5-6 hours and typically costs around $10. From Puyo, you can take another bus to Tena, which takes about 1-2 hours and costs around $2. Once in Tena, you will need to hire a local taxi to take you to the Tiputini River dock. The taxi ride can cost around $30-$50 depending on your negotiation skills. Finally, arrange for a local boat service at the Tiputini River dock to take you to the Biodiversity Station.
