If you are driving from the nearest major city, Lago Agrio, take the E45 highway towards Cuyabeno. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach the entrance of Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Here, you may need to pay an entrance fee (around $10) to access the reserve. Once inside, follow the signs or GPS coordinates to Waita Amazon Lodge, which is located approximately 30 kilometers from the entrance. The road may become rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
Public Bus
From Lago Agrio, catch a public bus heading to Cuyabeno or Sucumbíos. The bus ride takes about 2 hours and costs approximately $3. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. After exiting the bus, pay the entrance fee (around $10) at the gate. From there, you can either walk or arrange a ride with a local taxi or lodge transport (which may incur additional costs) to Waita Amazon Lodge, approximately 30 kilometers into the reserve.
Private Taxi
If you prefer a more comfortable option, you can hire a private taxi from Lago Agrio directly to Waita Amazon Lodge. The journey will take about 2 hours and can cost around $50-$70 depending on negotiation. Make sure the driver is familiar with the routes to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and the lodge itself.
Lodge Transfer
If you have already booked your stay at Waita Amazon Lodge, inquire about their transfer services. Many lodges offer pickup from Lago Agrio for a fee (approximately $30-$50 per person).
