If you're traveling by car, start from Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Take the Pan-American Highway (E35) southbound. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach the town of Machachi. From Machachi, take the road towards Cotopaxi National Park (E28). Follow the signs for Cotopaxi National Park. The drive will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. There is a park entrance fee of approximately $10 per vehicle for foreign tourists. Make sure to have cash on hand.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Quito to Latacunga at the Quitumbe bus terminal. Buses leave frequently and the fare is around $2.5 to $3. Once in Latacunga, transfer to a local bus heading to Cotopaxi National Park. Look for buses labeled 'Cotopaxi' or 'Lasso'. The total travel time is about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on connections. Ensure you check the bus schedules in advance as they can vary. Expect to pay an additional fare of about $1 for the trip to the park.
