If you are driving from the city of Tulcán, head south on the Pan-American Highway (E35) towards the border with Colombia. After crossing the Rumichaca International Bridge, continue on the same road which becomes the Colombian National Route 25. Follow the signs for Ipiales. Upon entering Ipiales, look for signs leading to Santuario de las Lajas. There is a parking area available near the sanctuary, but be aware of potential parking fees.

From Tulcán, you can take a bus to Ipiales. Buses leave frequently from the main bus terminal in Tulcán, and the journey takes about 1 to 2 hours, costing approximately $2 to $4 USD. Once you arrive at the Ipiales bus terminal, you can take a local taxi or a shared minibus to Santuario de las Lajas. The taxi ride will cost around $5 to $10 USD. If you prefer, you can also walk to the sanctuary, which is about 7 kilometers from the bus terminal, but this will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
