If you are driving, start from the central town of Loja. Take the E35 road heading north towards Catamayo. Continue on E35 until you reach the junction at Catamayo, then take the E40 road heading east toward Vilcabamba. Follow the signs for Vilcabamba for about 30 minutes. Once in Vilcabamba, take the road toward the south, following the signs for the entrance to Sierra Negra. The last stretch to the volcano is a dirt road; use a 4x4 vehicle if possible as it can be rough.
