Getting There

• Bus

  From your location in Loja, head to the main bus terminal (Terminal Terrestre de Loja). You can ask locals for directions if you're unsure. Once at the terminal, look for a bus heading to Vilcabamba. The buses leave frequently, so you shouldn't have to wait long. The journey to Vilcabamba typically takes about 1 hour. Upon arrival at the Vilcabamba bus terminal, exit the bus and ask locals for directions to 'Sendero Cascada El Palto' or simply 'Cascada El Palto'.

• Walking

  From the Vilcabamba bus terminal, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers to reach the entrance of the Cascada El Palto trail. Head southeast on the main road (E35) and follow the signs towards 'Cascada El Palto' for about 15-20 minutes. You will pass by local shops and cafes, which can be good stops if you need refreshments. Continue along the road until you reach the entrance marked with signs for the waterfall. The trailhead is located at Sendero Cascada El Palto Km 2.

• Hiking

  Once at the trailhead, begin your hike on the marked path towards Cascada El Palto. The hike is about 1.5 kilometers and should take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on your pace. The trail is well-maintained and offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water with you. As you get closer to the waterfall, you will hear the sound of the water cascading down, which signals that you are nearing your destination.
