Public Transport

From the main terminal in Puyo, catch a bus heading towards Arajuno. Inform the driver that you wish to stop at Paseo de los Monos. The journey should take approximately 10-15 minutes and cost around $1-$2.
Walking

If you prefer to walk from Puyo, begin at the central plaza and head northwest on Avenida 15 de Noviembre. Then, turn onto Via Puyo - Arajuno. The sanctuary is located approximately 2 kilometers from Puyo along this road. Be aware that the walk may take around 30 minutes.

Paseo de los Monos, or “Walk of the Monkeys,” is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a vital sanctuary for animals rescued from the devastating effects of illegal trafficking in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Located just outside of Puyo, this rehabilitation center provides a safe haven for over 100 animals, with a primary focus on monkeys. The foundation was established in 2005 by Yvan Bouvier and Veronique Grand, with the aim of protecting wildlife and preserving the indigenous traditions of the Amazon rainforest. Visitors to Paseo de los Monos can observe a variety of rescued animals, including six kinds of monkeys, turtles, and birds. Some animals live in cages, while others roam freely, allowing for close interaction with humans. The center also offers guided tours into the surrounding jungle, providing an opportunity to see more of the region's diverse wildlife. These tours offer insights into the lives of the animals and the conservation efforts undertaken to protect them. The foundation plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the ecological significance of these primates and the rainforest ecosystem. Paseo de los Monos is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
