Yanacocha Wildlife Park, located just 3 kilometers from Puyo on the road to Tena, is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a vital rescue center dedicated to the protection and conservation of wildlife species that have fallen victim to illegal trafficking in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Since its inauguration in 2010, Yanacocha has worked alongside the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment to provide care for over 200 animals across 42 species. The park spans eight hectares, with four designated for the rescue center and four maintained as a reserve area, featuring mature primary and secondary forests. This well-preserved area near Puyo allows visitors to observe released animals like sloths and monkeys in a natural habitat. The park's design incorporates local materials, lagoons, ponds, and tropical plants to create a suitable ecosystem for the animals. Visitors can take guided tours to meet the animals, learn their stories, and discover the park's conservation efforts. Yanacocha also manages the Tamandúa Ecological Reserve, a crucial site for research, rehabilitation, and the release of Amazonian wildlife. The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offering a unique opportunity to witness the beauty and diversity of Amazonian wildlife while supporting a crucial conservation initiative.
