Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from anywhere in Sierra and head towards Quito. Follow the E28 highway, which leads directly into the city. Once you enter Quito, look for signs directing you to the Centro Histórico. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with García Moreno Street. Turn right onto García Moreno Street and drive until you reach the intersection with Chile Street. Independence Square will be on your left. Be aware of parking regulations as the area can be busy.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To get to Independence Square by bus, find a local bus station in Sierra that has routes to Quito. Several companies operate daily services. Once on the bus, inform the driver that you want to get off at Centro Histórico. The bus fare typically ranges from $2 to $5, depending on your starting point. After arriving in Quito, follow signs to the Centro Histórico area. From there, walk towards García Moreno Street and Chile Street, where Independence Square is located. It's about a 10-minute walk.

  For a more direct route, consider taking a taxi or a rideshare service like Uber. Request a ride to 'Independence Square' or 'Plaza de la Independencia' in Quito. This option is convenient and can cost anywhere from $25 to $50, depending on your pickup location in Sierra. The ride may take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

• Walking from Public Transit

  If you arrive in Quito by bus, you'll likely be dropped off at the Quitumbe Bus Terminal. From there, take a local taxi or use public transport (like the Ecovía bus system) to get closer to the Centro Histórico. The Ecovía has stops that will lead you toward the historic area. Once you reach a stop near García Moreno Street, it's a short walk to Independence Square, which is at the intersection of García Moreno and Chile Street.
