Walking

From Ibrahim Al Awal Square in Anfoushi, head southeast towards the coast on Ibrahim Al Awal St. Continue to the intersection with El Horreya Rd, turn left, and walk straight until you reach the Anfushi Tombs entrance on your right. The walk takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

Public Transport

From Alexandria Corniche, take a public bus or tram heading towards Al Gomrok. Alight at Ibrahim Al Awal Square or the Ras at Tin stop. From there, the Anfushi Tombs are a short walk away. Bus fare is around 5 EGP.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Alexandria. Request a ride to the Anfushi Tombs (قبر الأنفوشي). Agree on the fare before starting the journey. A short taxi ride within Alexandria costs approximately 35 EGP for 5km.

The Anfushi Tombs, nestled in Alexandria's Al Gomrok district, offer a profound insight into ancient burial traditions. Constructed around 250 BC during the Ptolemaic era, these tombs reflect a mix of Greek and Roman influences. Discovered between 1901 and 1921, the site consists of five interconnected subterranean tombs carved from limestone.Inside, visitors can marvel at the detailed frescoes and inscriptions that adorn the walls, illustrating stories of those laid to rest. The tombs were painted to resemble marble and alabaster, materials favored by the Greeks and Romans. The designs feature high vaulted ceilings, murals, and frescos. One tomb has a central courtyard with an opening to the sky. The serene atmosphere invites reflection on Alexandria's ancient past.
